NASA’s Space Launch System rocket booster’s solid propellant was ground-tested on its side at ATK, the rocket builder’s factory. The gas temperature reached 5,600° Farenheit, enough to boil steel. Multiple instruments aboard the booster relayed important information on the status of the rocket during the burn.
